Much like Firefly, Twin Peaks was a show that was ahead of it’s time and was cut short before it could really come into it’s own. Still, with only 30 episodes aired, the show helped to change the face television with it’s mix of crime drama and sci-fi mind bender before the The X-Files became the standard. And despite it’s short live run, Twin Peaks continues to be considered one of the best TV shows of all time, and it’s no wonder that it’s kept a devoted fan base over the years.

Well, Twin Peaks fans, your day is about to get a lot better.

Show creators David Lynch and Mark Frost posted this Tweet at 11:30 AM (the same time Special Agent Dale Cooper — played by the always great Kyle MacLachlan — first came to the town of Twin Peaks) on Friday:

If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll probably recognize Cooper’s frequently used phrase, as well as a line from one of the show’s seminal episodes. If these weren’t clues enough, Lynch and Frost released an official video to announce the return of Twin Peaks in a special nine episode run on Showtime, just in time for the 25th anniversary.

No word yet on whether anyone from the original cast will be returning, but Showtime confirmed that Lynch and Frost will write and produce the limited series and Lynch will direct all nine episodes. The series is reportedly supposed to be set in present day and will not be a reboot, but an extension of the original series. Showtime will also be showing re-runs of the original 30 episodes leading up to the new episodes, which will premiere in 2016.

What are you hoping to see in the new Twin Peaks episodes?
